BIONICLE Advanced Wars: Brink of Destruction

Welcome, one and all, to BAWDA’s Official RPG! “Brink of Destruction” is a fan-fiction RPG that takes place in an alternate Matoran Universe, where things have gone terribly, terribly wrong.

RPG Rules:

-Contact me with a copy of your character sheet before playing the game and posting it in the Character Sheets and Discussion Thread. If you jump into the game without creating and verifying your character sheet first, your posts will be deleted from this topic.

-No god-mods. You may not use and “Ultimate Weapon of Doom,” nor are you allowed to possess the Mask of Time, Mask of Light, Mask of Life, or Mask of Dimensional Gates. You may not play as a Makuta.

-If you are playing as a Toa, you must ask my permission before using a nova blast. It’s not restricted, but you need to check with me first, so I know you’re not going to ruin the game.

-Stay within reason. This is supposed to be a Bionicle story; please keep that in mind. No humans, and no characters from outside of the Matoran Universe (exception for Bara Mangans, only with my permission).

-Don’t be ridiculous. Have fun, but remember that this is a serious scenario. Don’t give your character a Midak that shoots cookies, or anything like that.

-And of course, BAWDA Forum Rules and Guidelines apply!

Description:

In an alternate Matoran Universe, Makuta has already reigned for almost a thousand years. All work is done in his name, and “peace” is enforced by the “Order of Makuta,” and organization whose business is keeping everything in Makuta’s best interests.

Memories of the Great Spirit Mata Nui of were erased from most of the population’s memory, and for the most part they are convinced that Makuta is the Great Spirit. However, there are still those who believe that they were once a part of something greater. The “Circle of Light” is a growing group of Matoran who believe that something is terribly wrong, and that their Universe must be saved from this mad tyrant.

All the while, time is running out for the Universe, because Makuta has overlooked one fatal error.

Mata Nui’s body is dying.

And heroes are nowhere to be found.

-----------------------------------------

Creating Your Character:

For the most part, you can let your imagination run wild. Just keep a few things in mind:

Name: Keep it somewhat Bionicle-esque, or an operative name, like “Hunter” or “Trigger.” Don’t use names like Bob. Also, you may not play as an already existing character.

Element/Natural Abilities: Again, no god-mods. You may not possess control over the powers of life or time.

Weapon(s), Mask Power: No all-powerful weapons. You may not possess the Staff of Artahka. You may not possess the Masks of Life, Light, Time, or Dimensional Gates.

Appearance: Please provide a detailed description of your character, or a picture.

Race: You may invent a race, as long as it is still Bionicle-esque. You may not play as a Makuta.

-----------------------------------------

Character Sheet:

These are the fields that must be filled in for your character sheet:

Name: -your character’s name.

Race: -options include Toa, Matoran, Turaga, Skakdi, Xian, and Vortixx. You may also create your own race.

Gender: -male or female

Element/Natural Abilities: -any powers you possess without weapons

Weapon(s), Mask Power: -Mask Power only applies to beings who can access their mask power; Matoran Mask Power is not listed here

Appearance: -please make a description or provide an image. Matoran masks should be listed here, not in Mask Power

Description: -your character’s personal background, personality, and traits

Clan: -optional. Circle of Light or Order of Makuta are the current options. If you want to remain neutral, you may put “none.” Do not create your own clan, although you may send me suggestions if you want to make a new one.

-----------------------------------------

NPCs:

These characters are free for you to use and interact with. The only thing you can’t do is kill them or do something outside of the guidelines with them.

Description: As the master of the known universe, there are not many who dare to question Makuta’s rule. Out of arrogance, Makuta kept Mata Nui’s spirit alive, trapped inside of an empty suit of Exo-Toa armor, though his existence is only known to Makuta himself.
Clan: None

-----------------------------------------

Location:

All events in “Brink of Destruction” take place in the Metru Nui, the “City of Shadows.” Although the streets are quiet and the sky is dark, the city is not so different than it was 1000 years ago. The Circle of Light is based in an abandoned reclamation yard in Ta Metru. The Order of Makuta is based in the Coliseum.

-----------------------------------------

If you have questions or comments, don’t hesitate to ask me! And have fun! I’m just setting the stage; you guys are running the show.

IC: Nyrexa was tumbling between worlds.

She had been in Metru Nui only seconds before, watching as strange, beetle-like creatures erupted out of the ground, only to be immediately engaged by the Rahkshi that stalked the coastline. The Toa Nuva had flown in, the Makuta had been buffeted by a huge storm that swelled over the Silver Sea, and Order of Mata Nui had been flanking the city walls. She had felt it: a sudden surge in the air; an uplifting that moved her very spirit, and she knew. Mata Nui was awake.

She remembered looking at Krakua, who was nearby, and how they had smiled as they both realized that the battle was over. They had won. But before she could even speak to him, there had been a huge surge and crackle of energy in front of and behind her. She had looked forward instantly to see a large figure with a golden mask leaping out of a swirling portal. Before she could think, the newcomer had slammed into her and pushed her into another portal that had ripped open behind her.

Nyrexa was suddenly nowhere, with a strange looking Skakdi wrapped around her waist. She caught a brief, last second glimpse of Metru Nui before the portal winked out of existence. The Skakdi cackled like a madman.

“Let go of me!” Nyrexa snarled, not sure what was even happening.

“So soon? We’ve only just met!” the Skakdi replied. “It’s been so long since I’ve had a moment to talk to someone. Strange weather we’re having, isn’t it?”

Nyrexa didn’t reply, but swung her staff and sent a jolt of electricity through the apparently insane Skakdi. He cried out and flung her away. Out of control, Nyrexa spun towards another portal and fell through it. Before she had time to wonder where she was, she slammed face first into a city street and went unconscious.

*****

Nyrexa woke up after what she thought seemed like a long time. Her limbs were weak and leaden as she pushed herself up onto her knees. She realized her mask had flown off after the impact. She found it lying beside her and put it on, relieved that it hadn’t been broken after the fall.

As her strength slowly returned, she stood up and looked around. Strange. This looked like Metru Nui, but where was everybody? There were no Toa, no signs of battle, no celebrations over the awakening of the Great Spirit. The city was silent and dark. The sky was gray, although there were no clouds.

A brief look around told Nyrexa that she was in Ta Metru. As she was considering her next course of action, a flash of movement off to the left caught her eye.

Taking her staff in both hands, Nyrexa moved carefully to investigate…

*****

Amaja looked behind her. She had seen someone in the shadows; a tall figure she had never seen before. Knowing that newcomers in the City of Shadows usually meant trouble, her first thought had been to get back to Jaller.

If this new fellow is here for us, then we’ll need to move quickly. she told herself firmly, her heartlight racing as she wound her way towards their meeting place. If the Circle of Light is compromised, then our world will never be free. We must survive!

Even as she made that vow to herself, it was too late. Suddenly a barrier of electric energy flared to life around her, cutting off any escape. The dark figure she had spotted was behind her, analyzing. Amaja gasped. It was a Toa, but not Ahkmou. She had never met any other kind of Toa before, and didn’t expect this one to be any better than the cruel Toa of Stone.

“You might as well kill me.” Amaja said, standing up straight. “Because I won’t tell you anything.”

Nyrexa stepped closer, looking at the Ga-Matoran as though she were some strange species of Rahi. Amaja looked back at her with defiance.

The Toa and the Matoran matched gazes for a long moment before Nyrexa finally backed off and dropped the electrical field.

Amaja didn’t move. She looked at the Toa expectantly. “Who are you?”

“No one you would know about.” Nyrexa replied. Then she looked around at the darkened city and said, “What happened here?”

“What do you mean, what happened?” Amaja demanded. “Nothing’s happened. It’s the same way it’s always been.”

“No, it’s not!” the Toa of Electricity replied impatiently. “This is… this is not Metru Nui. Where are the Matoran? Where is the light? And the birds? And what are these?” She pointed at one of many statues in the likeness of a Matoran with warped and pitted mask and armor. Amaja was shaking her head, baffled.

“The Matoran are working, as they always are.” she replied. “The light’s like it’s always been. The birds aren’t interested in anything this city has to offer. And that,” she said, pointing at the statue. “Is the Great Spirit.”

Nyrexa looked at the statue, then at Amaja, then at the horizon, and finally at the statue again.

“Uh-oh.”

OOC: Here we go! We are in the Alternate MU, the City of Shadows! Have fun, I’ll be checking in regularly.

IC(ECREAM):

Cretauri slowly walked through Ta-Metru.
He wouldn't normally be out of Ko-Metru, but he had to deliver an item to a certain Amaja.
He had no clue who he or she was, but knew were he or she would be.
The cold hearted matoran walked down the street.
His foot panged against the pavement, again and again.

Ping. Ping. Ping. Uh oh.

Cretauri stopped.
He looked at his feet, then a dark alleyway, then back at his feet.
The Ko-matoran was pretty sure footsteps don't sound like "Uh-Oh".

Cretuari crept into the alleyway, only to face the back of....

A Toa?

IC: Nyrexa sensed that someone was behind her and immediately turned with her staff ready. She was sore and confused, and didn't trust anything in this version of Metru Nui apparently gone mad.

She faultered at the sight of a Ko-Matoran with a small object in his hand and a black pouch slung over his shoulder. He didn't seem frightened; only a little surprised.

Amaja started to move toward him when suddenly there was a crash off to their left. Amaja looked and gasped, withdrawing a step as she recognized the newcomer.

It was Ahkmou, flanked by four Vahki Bordahk. He took a swift look at Nyrexa, then at Cretauri, then at Amaja.

"Makuta will not be pleased." Ahkmou said, sounding as though this was good news. "Oh, he will not be pleased at all. And you do know what happens when the universe is not pleased, right?"

With a sweep of his arm, he created bands of stone that shot up out of the ground and wrapped around the Toa and the two Matoran, trapping them. They were bound together in such a way that Nyrexa could not use her powers without the risk of jolting the two Matoran next to her.

"Living in it gets a whole lot harder," the Toa of Stone said with a wicked chuckle.

IC (UP):

Cretauri struggled in the bonds.
Of course, who wouldn't?
Unfortunately for all "good" present company, they were unbreakable.
In the instant he had seen Ahkmou, Cretauri froze.
The item he had been carrying for Amaja had fallen to the ground, as well as his sack.
He hoped the contents didn't break, or he would never forgive himself.

That is, if he was going to survive.

IC: Ahkmou motioned for the Vahki to go to the Coliseum and inform Makuta of what he had found. As soon as they were gone, he turned to give the Toa and Matoran a sinister smile.

Then his attention was drawn to the objects Cretauri had dropped. He moved forward, intrigued. Although he thought the bag was interesting, his attention went first to the small object the Matoran had been holdng in his hand. He picked it up. Cretauri struggled harder against his bonds.

Ahkmou studied it. It was a strange, wedge shaped stone, with jagged edges. It had one word inscribed on it:

Tahu.

The Toa Mata of Fire? Ahkmou thought, his mind reeling. But the Toa Mata are legend! They don't exist! If they did... if they did...!

Ahkmou was so preoccupied with the artifact that he didn't notice Nyrexa using her mask power until it was too late. Triggering the power of the Mahiki, Nyrexa transformed herself into a doom viper and slithered free of her stone bonds. Then, even as she deactivated her mask, she launched herself at Ahkmou and jolted him with chain lightening. Ahkmou dropped the stone and withdrew a few steps.

Nyrexa took her staff and quickly used it to shatter the Matorans' bonds. "Run!" she barked, already turning back to Ahkmou, who was beginning to recover from the attack. She glanced behind and saw Cretauri pausing to pick up his black pouch. She quickly picked up the stone Ahkmou had been examining and threw it to the Ko-Matoran.

"Keep that. I think it's important."

Then she turned to face Ahkmou again, who was recovered, summoning his powers, and very, very angry.

IC:

Cretauri nodded, and placed the stone in his bag. This itself was fascinating, for only items of dire importance went into the black-vine sack.
He took off out of the alleyway, guiding Amaja through the streets.
They took a sharp turn, and were faced with a hole in the ground.
Cretauri gave a quizzical look at Amaja, and she in turn nodded.
They descended into the hole.
Cretauri hoped the mysterious Toa could stand against Ahkmou.

Voriki stared at the gold-masked Skadki. Vezon stared at the purple-masked Toa. The clone shook his head. "Everyone's traveling through deminsions these days..." he moaned, "Now we have two Toa of Electricity,"

Voriki gave Vezon a quizzicle look. "Two Toa of Electricity?" he asked.

Vezon laughed meniacly. And insainly, the violet Toa mused. "What are you, a parrot?" Vezon asked back. With that, the Olmak swooped him away.

Voriki looked back at the blue portal that had brought him here. The Spectral Mask would soon close it. "I don't want to go about the mad," Voriki muttered.

"You can't possibly help that," the Mask had said, "They're all mad there,"

OOC: Razz
IC:

Darkness.
It was all Cretauri saw.
For someone who was spending almost every living second high up in Knowledge towers, delivering messages, the absence of light was like a punch to the face.
The though of Ko-Metru brang tears to his eyes. He now was realizing he may never see the light of day again. Teridax was a powerful force, DEFINITELY not to be reckoned with. The Great Spirit also had helpers, such as Ahkmou and Vahki. He made sure Amaja was holding his hand as they blindly wandered through the tunnels. But hark! A light at the end of the tunnel, physically and metaphorically! A ladder led up to possibly an underground chamber, or the street above. Amaja climbed up, then Cretauri.

They had just interrupted a meeting of the Circle of Light.

OOC: @Slushie: The Mahiki changes appearance, not one's true form. Nyrexa couldn't really have used it to escape... Party pooper...

IC:

"So, that's a change. I will myself to teleport and it happens. Now to find out where I've gotten myself this time."

Kerikor scraped the broken Wormhole Staff along the wall, making just enough sparks to see for an instant.

"Hm. Tunnels." He scraped the staff along the wall for a longer duration of time, showing him which way to go. Far ahead in the tunnel, there was a dark hole in the ceiling.

He smiled without feeling, and walked to the hole. As he peered into the darkness, sparks began to flash erratically from his hands. It seemed to go upwards... far upwards. A glowing circle was near the top, and as he squinted at it, he realized that it was the outside.

"A long climb seems to be in order," he muttered, and he pulled himself into the chute and clambered up, and up, and up...

Voriki could feel the demensional waste emiting from the space where Vezon had stood. He realized similar vibes came from below him. He bent down and smelt the ooze of Rakshi Slime and Energized Protodermis, or some other mutating substance of similar stench.

"A demension-traveling Mutant Rakshi," he wondered aloud, "Kerikor. We meet again... if your old master told you of me,"

And who would tell a Rakshi anything? An ally or an oponent, Voriki began searching for an enemy who probably didn't know he existed.

OOC: Wait, how would Voriki know about Kerikor? He was made, I think, before any Toa existed... or were the Toa made before the Makuta?

IC:

Kerikor hauled himself the final two bio out of the tunnel. He picked up his Wormhole Staff and looked around him. It seemed to be a Fire or Plasma district, judging from the heat.

"I'd take Water over Fire any day," he said to himself. "But I'd also take Fire over Plantlife any day." He continued to mutter to himself as he began to walk through Ta-Metru (though he did not know its name).

He had just settled into a comfortable walking rhythm, and was no longer paying attention to where he was going, when he ran straight into what he realized (when he looked up) was the back of a Stone-Toa.

With his usual lack of tact, he jabbed the Toa in the back with the Wormhole Staff. "Quit sitting there and give a humble traveler some directions."

Voriki watched the Rakshi stab a Toa of Stone. With annoyance, he realized he carried the wormwhole staff.

"No wonder I couldn't find it..."

Voriki recalled fighting his way though many Rakshi on one of his prevous missions. When he finally reached the seaside town, he was disapointed; the Rakshi's Master didn't have the staff. Before Voriki left, the Master gave him one clue: A Rakshi named Kerikor.

"Did the Rakshi steal the staff, or was it given to him?" Voriki wondered aloud. This could not end well.

By the time Cretauri and Amaja were fully up the ladder, Jaller had his firestaff pointing at them. When he saw Amaja, he slowly lowered the still-burning firestaff, but the wariness didn't quite go out of his eyes.

"Amaja." He nodded to her. "I assume that this is a new recruit?" He glanced at Cretauri, scanning him carefully.

IC:

Creaturi coughed, and shaked off all the dust from the tunnel.
He looked up, and saw something sharp pointed at him.
He backed away caustiously.

Cretauri hated fire.

But he didn't leave.
Outside, somewhere, Ahkmou and the strange Toa were fighting.

So he closed the hatch that led to the tunnel.
Then he turned to Amaja to see what she was going to say.

Voriki saw Kerikor walk into a Toa of Stone a few yards ahead.
Enemies? Allies? Strangers? He thought to himself. He sat back from his hiding place a decided to watch how the events unfolded.

Voriki remembered his last mission to this subdimension. "The balance of the universe may depend on it." The Spectral Mask had said. In a Makuta base far from here, Voriki had searched up and down for the mysterious Master of the Rakshi. When he found him, the Master revealed nothing, as if pleased the Wormhole staff had not been confiscated. When Voriki had asked (or more coaxed) for the current location of the staff, the Master had said only "I've heard rumors. A mutant Rahkshi teleporting around a small seaside village... they call him Kerikor."

With that, Voriki left to report the mission a failure. The funny thing was, the Master and his base were not seen again. Voriki himself had no power to kill a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta... did he?

The Mask had been upset to hear the Staff was gone. "If that thing breaks, every madman with an Olmak will come teleporting aroung here. This dimension will become a virtual beacon. Some things that are caught between dimensions must stay between dimensions."

Two Toa of Electricity, Kerikor himself, and also Vezon... Voriki realized. He hoped Kerikor hadn't played with his toy so much that it broke.

IC:

A figure rose from the far end of the table, half in the Light, half in the Dark.

Everyone quieted down.

Obviously... Cretauri thought, This figure has authority.

At first, the matoran of ice thought it was another matoran. But as the figure continued rising, he gasped.

A toa. Perhaps ice, partially because of his black and white armor.

"Greetings," the figure said in a soft voice. "My name is Twilink, but you may call me Twilight, Link, Twi..."

He paused.

"Or friend. Would you like to join the Circle?"

OOC: Sorry for the long absence, guys. And thanks to GT and his character for just the story element I needed to move on with this fight scene.

IC: Nyrexa reeled in surprise as Kelikor's staff jabbed into Ahkmou's back. The blast of electrical energy she had been harnessing shot forward at the same moment that Ahkmou spun and stepped aside. Kelikor looked up in time to see a flare of energy explode in his face. He angrily flailed his staff and accidentally activated it's powers as it connected blindly with Ahkmou's midsection. The Toa of Stone screamed in terror as a dimensional wormhole opened in his torso. Nyrexa froze, stunned and helpless but to watch as Ahkmou went down to his knees. Then the wormhole winked out, leaving his body torn. The Toa of Stone pitched forward and his eyes went dark.

Kelikor casually withdrew his staff, looked at Nyrexa, and shrugged. Nyrexa stared at him with her mouth agape.

OOC: Just glad to have you back.

IC: Voriki examined the events carefully. The Toa of Stone was (and apperently has been for some time) fighting the Toa of Electricity, likely the demensional traveler Vezon had mentioned. If that were so, he would need to destroy her means of travel if possiblt, send her back where she came from, call the mission a sucess, and possibly return with the Wormwhole staff.

The Toa of Stone was obviosly superior, or thought he was, and easily in a position of power. Kerikor was there for the sake of being there, clearly with no intention. The Electricity Toa was confused, perhaps having traveled unnintentionally or not having traveled properly - which Voriki had seen often. The Spectral Mask whished him to stop demensional travel from upsetting the destiny of anyone in any demension, although some travel is still permitted. Recently, a Toa of Light interfeired with a demension where a Toa called Tuyet ruled - but at the same time, beings from his universe began traveling like crazy. After tracking Vezon here, the Skadki traveled, possibly to a universe where Mata Nui was compleing his mission and the Glatorians worked with Toa. This new Toa, however, may be a priority.

IC:

Cretauri's knees buckled.

He had been asked many times before, but this "Twilight" character was... so convincing.

It was like all his troubles were draining away.

Suddenly, he realized that the mask the toa had was a Komau.

Turning away, Cretauri sheilded his eyes just for good measure.

This would seem strange, but no one else knew what was happening.

Twilink hesitated, and apologized.

"I am sorry, but if you were to leave with this information in your head..."

He shrugged.

Cretauri looked up and said softly,

"No need. I'm in."

OOC: Glad I could help.

IC:

Kerikor's mouth twisted ever so slightly. "What's the difference? One less Toa, especially a Stone-Toa... what does that matter?"

When he noticed that Nyrexa was still staring at him, he sighed. "That's a joke. Now, who are you, who was he, and what is this horrible city?" He gripped the Wormhole Staff tighter, but still gently.

OOC: "What's the difference? One less Toa, especially a Stone-Toa... what does that matter?"

Voriki tensed. The Toa were obviosly unnaquiented... but yet, he would not let a murder take place.

"That's a joke. Now, who are you, who was he, and what is this horrible city?"

"I can answer your last question" Voriki called. Dropping from his perch, He indicated the world around him. "This is Metru Nui, in a universe on the brink of destruction. The Makuta Teridax rules here, as he has right to-" the Toa of Energy saw the electricity toa gasp, but continued, "-because every time something in the universe is put in jepeorady, in creates an alternate universe where that thing has already happened, is happening, or will happen,"

He looked to the Rakshi, then the Toa, and then the corpse on the ground. "I am Voriki, He Who Travels. Recently a Skadki I was tracking, alternate Vezok w/ Olmak 00012KYQ, enetered here with a passenger." He pointed to the Toa of Electricty. "And a Rakshi arrived with a Wormhole Staff I have been tracking aswell," He pointed to Kerikor. "Now, i want the answer to his first question. Who are you, Sister of Electicity?" He pointed back to the Toa.
